DC and Warner Bros. have given us our first look at Blue Beetle, the former HBO Max exclusive superhero movie from Angel Manuel Soto that’s now getting to swarm the box office itself as the next big movie of… well, DC’s weird transitory universe phase right now. But its peculiar place in DC’s slate doesn’t stop it from making a great first impression, as well as offering us a few intriguing hints and details to spot in its debut trailer.
The trailer opens with Xolo Maridueña as our hero, Jaime Reyes. Introduced in the comics in 2006 and created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner, Jaime is the third hero in DC canon to take on the mantle of the Blue Beetle. Much younger than his predecessors in the role (Dan Garrett and Ted Kord, more on them later), Jaime’s story radically overhauled the Blue Beetle concept.
